"I still don’t know how I survived"

Roger's life changed in an instant when out of nowhere, a car collided with him at speed and drove off – leaving Roger seriously injured in the road.

I was coming home from work, when I was hit by a car that came from nowhere. I flew about 20 feet through the air landed on the floor. I heard his tires screech and off he went, leaving me in the road for dead.

The impact left his beloved Piaggio scooter destroyed and scattered in bits all over a busy junction.

“I still don’t know how I survived,” says Roger, “I should have been killed.”

As luck would have it, two off-duty doctors soon arrived on the scene. They worked together to help Roger before the emergency services arrived.

“The police were there within a few minutes they were brilliant. They stopped the traffic – cars were still coming within a foot of my leg unbelievably! Then I phoned my wife; she came up and parked her car the other side of the police car to protect me.”

Once he felt secure, the reality of his injuries became clear. “I started moving my arms and legs. I moved my right ankle and realized something was wrong.”

It transpired that Roger had torn the ligaments in his right ankle. “I had cuts and bruises on the other ankle, on my knee and on my rear end!”

The collision not only had a big impact on Roger’s health, but it also left him unable to work in his current job.

After the collision, MIB was able to support Roger by stepping in where the driver responsible could not be traced.

“We got in touch with MIB directly, explaining the situation and they just took it on and ran with it.”

For people injured by uninsured or hit‑and‑run drivers, MIB exists to make sure there is a route to compensation and support to rebuild their lives.
