Chris' story
Chris was cycling home when a car sideswiped him. The driver sped off, leaving Chris concussed, injured and alone.
Further support for your recovery
It’s important you get the help you need to recover from mental, physical or financial trauma. Here are some resources from national organisations that can help you to find and access the right kind of care and support after an accident. If you need to pay for your post-accident support, then you may be able to add these costs to your claim.
We’re working towards a fully insured future
Our vision is to put an end to uninsured driving. For good.
To achieve that vision, we are working on lots of initiatives and in partnership with organisations including the DVLA, the government and local communities to make roads safer. Our aim is to focus on education and prevention of uninsured driving, so our work to help the police seize vehicles is used as a last resort for those knowingly driving uninsured.
You can follow our progress on social media or visit our news pages.
Frequently asked questions about support after an accident
We’re sorry that you’ve been in an accident. If the person who caused it was insured, then you can speak to your motor insurer or a legal representative for next steps. If the driver was uninsured, untraced or driving a foreign vehicle, then we may be able to help. Check your eligibility using our handy checklist to see whether you should make a claim through MIB or another organisation.
Check your claim eligibilityYou have a legal obligation to declare any accident to the police, no matter how big or small, or what your part in the accident was. If you were using a motor vehicle at the time of the accident, you must also report it to your own motor insurer, regardless of who was at fault.
You don’t have to file a claim when you make the report. It’s OK to decide whether or not you want to make a claim at a later date. If you choose to go ahead, you can either submit it yourself or ask a legal representative to act on your behalf.
If you’re making a claim for a hit-and-run, then you must report the accident to the police before you begin your claim submission.
There are lots of national and local charities and organisations who can offer physical and mental health help after a car accident. You can also contact your GP or speak with a legal representative for advice. You may be able to add the cost of these services on to your personal injury claim. Take a look at the resources above as a starter for ten.
We’ll contact you via email whenever your case moves forward. You can also check the status of your claim at any time by logging into your account on the portal.
If you feel the service we’ve provided has fallen short of your expectations, please send us a message by selecting the 'Complaint’ option in the MIB Claim Portal. Alternatively, email your concerns to contact@mibclaims.org.uk, call us on 01908 830001 or write to us at:
