Check your vehicle insurance status

What is Check Your Vehicle?
Check Your Vehicle uses data held in Navigate, the central record of all insured vehicles in the UK, to let you know if your vehicle has a live insurance policy. If you want further information about your policy, you’ll need to contact your insurer or review your policy documents.
You can only use this service to run a motor insurance check on vehicles you own or have been given the legal right to drive.
What do the results mean?
When you submit your VRN, you’ll see one of two results.
Insured
If the result shows as insured, it means there’s a live insurance policy against the vehicle you submitted.
This doesn't tell you if your vehicle has the correct insurance policy (eg, what you're using it for), only that one exists.
It’s best practice to check your policy details to make sure all of your information is up to date, including your insurance type, vehicle access and personal address. If any of these are incorrect, you may not be insured.
Not insured
If your result shows that there is no live insurance policy found, you’ll need to act immediately.
There are many reasons your vehicle may show as uninsured. If you believe this is incorrect, contact your insurer. If you've recently bought or renewed your insurance, your vehicle may temporarily show as uninsured. Run another search after seven days, and if it still doesn't show as insured, contact your insurer for advice. It’s best to keep your policy details with you until Navigate shows your vehicle is insured.
