Confidently underwrite policies, manage claims and support fraud prevention with access to centralised insurance data.
Supporting the motor insurance lifecycle
Accurate data underpins every stage of the motor insurance lifecycle, from underwriting through to claims management. MIB provides motor insurers and brokers with access to comprehensive data that supports risk assessment, policy validation and fraud detection. These services help to ensure consistency across the market while enabling informed, data-driven decisions.
Motor Insurance Policy Data (MIPD)

The policy holder details plus any named drivers
The type of insurance policy in place
The name of the insurer and the policy’s start and end dates
Vehicle Salvage and Theft Data (VS&TD)
VS&TD, held in Navigate, is the central record of claims relating to written off and stolen vehicles, as defined by the Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage.
It’s used to help the tracing and recovery of stolen vehicles, and to verify a vehicle’s history to ensure it’s mechanically and structurally safe to be on the road. The data is also used to detect fraud.
This data contains:
Vehicle details including reported stolen and recovery updates
Details of the claimant
Vehicle damage category
Access to Navigate
Both the MIPD and VS&TD data is accessed via a secure login on the Navigate platform and is only available to authorised professionals.

This data is available to insurers, brokers and delegated authorities for use when calculating a driver’s risk factor. No personal details, medical information or spent convictions can be viewed.
To set up MyLicence for your business, you’ll need to contact us for support.
MIB membership
Every insurer and underwriter selling motor insurance in the UK and Crown Dependencies must be an MIB member to legally underwrite a policy. Every member contributes to MIB’s funding through a levy.
Frequently asked questions about MIB data services
Under the Road Traffic Act 1988, anyone who is injured by a motor vehicle must be able to claim compensation, even when the driver at fault is uninsured or untraceable.
MIB exists to fulfil this obligation and is funded as a not-for-profit organisation by the motor insurance industry through a levy that each motor insurer must contribute. Essentially, it’s a way of spreading the cost and risk of uninsured and untraced accidents, rather than allowing individual insurance companies to disproportionately pay out.
Additionally, the data services that the industry relies on to quote, underwrite and pay compensation need to be managed by a neutral organisation that can process data for the whole industry. Compulsory membership allows MIB to be that impartial central processor on behalf of every motor insurer.
Each service has its own dedicated team of account managers. For support with a dataset held in Navigate, you can use the ‘Contact Us’ form when you are logged into Navigate.
For askMID, CUE or MyLicence, you can email the relevant team.
Alternatively, you can call MIB on 01908 830001 between 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday.
MIB provides access to established data that confirms whether policy, vehicle and claims details are consistent and accurate.
This makes it easier to identify potential warning signs, such as repeated claims activity, conflicting information or details that do not match known records. By supporting these checks at key stages, from underwriting through to claims handling, the data helps organisations make informed decisions and take appropriate action where something does not look right.
All suspicions of fraudulent activity should be reported to IFB (Insurance Fraud Bureau) and Report Fraud.
