Resources for data recipients
Support verification, investigation and operational decisions, with secure and controlled access to motor insurance policy, vehicle and claims data.
Enabling transparency across the industry
Organisations such as the DVLA and provenance companies are classed as data recipients. Their role is to help to maintain safety and transparency across the motor insurance industry by supporting vehicle verification, fraud investigation and operational decision-making.
Motor Insurance Policy Data (MIPD)
MIPD, held in Navigate, is the central record of insured vehicles in the UK. It’s used to verify a vehicle’s insurance status on the road and support continuous insurance enforcement and anti-fraud activities.
This data contains:
The vehicle’s number plate, make and model
The policy holder details plus any named drivers
The type of insurance policy in place
The name of the insurer and the policy’s start and end dates
Vehicle Salvage and Theft Data (VS&TD)
VS&TD, held in Navigate, is the central record of claims relating to written off and stolen vehicles, as defined by the Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage.
It’s used to help the tracing and recovery of stolen vehicles, and to verify a vehicle’s history to ensure it’s mechanically and structurally safe to be on the road. The data is also used to detect fraud.
This data contains:
Vehicle details including reported stolen and recovery updates
Details of the claimant
Vehicle damage category
Access to Navigate
Both the MIPD and VS&TD data is accessed via a secure login on the Navigate platform and is only available to authorised professionals.
