Navigate is MIB's secure cloud data platform.
Navigate hosts data previously held in the former Motor Insurance Database (MID). It's the central record of insured vehicles in the UK. Navigate is managed by the MIB and used by Insurers, the Police and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) to enforce motor insurance laws and keep dangerous vehicles off our roads. In November 2025 vehicle salvage and theft data from the former Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud & Theft Register (MIAFTR) was moved into Navigate.
Ensuring that vehicles driven on our roads are insured at all times
MIB shares Navigate data with the DVLA to identify uninsured vehicles under the Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) scheme. Enforcement agencies and the police also use Navigate data to tackle uninsured driving. They have the power to remove uninsured vehicles from UK roads.
