MIB announces departure of CEO Dominic Clayden

Dominic Clayden will be leaving MIB (Motor Insurers’ Bureau) in June after six successful years with the organisation.

Dominic joined in 2018 and has been central to some of the biggest achievements in MIB’s recent history. These include helping to bring down the number of open claims cases to its lowest level in nearly ten years and the development and launch of Official Injury Claim as part of the Ministry of Justice’s whiplash reforms. Under Dominic’s leadership, MIB overcame the challenges posed by Brexit, including securing agreements with all 30 EEA countries to ensure a route to compensation when travelling abroad and achieving an end to MIB’s liabilities as emanation of the state.

“It has been an absolute privilege to lead such a fantastic organisation over the last six years and I’m grateful for all the support I’ve had from the market in making these achievements possible,” says Dominic. “Together we have achieved a great deal at a time when the world has gone through significant change, notably Brexit and a global pandemic. Alongside the achievements which have benefited our insurer members and the vital support we have provided victims of uninsured and hit-and-run drivers, I am particularly proud of the way we protected our people through Covid and how it brought us together as an organisation. We have modernised operationally, technologically and culturally, and I believe MIB has a strong platform to further evolve and improve.”

Dominic will finish his role as CEO at the end of June. A new CEO, who has already been appointed and will be announced in due course, will begin on 1 July. Dominic will stay on at MIB as a strategic advisor until the end of the year, working alongside the new CEO to ensure a smooth and effective transition.

Chairman Mike Crane says: “The conversations and planning for Dom’s exit began around 18 months ago, and we have worked closely together to put in a number of steps and key appointments to ensure the business is in a strong position for his departure. Dom should be extremely proud of what MIB has achieved under his leadership. He has helped MIB continue to deliver on its core purpose of tackling uninsured and hit-and-run driving but, more than that, Dom has been integral in strengthening MIB’s standing with insurers and key partners as an invaluable asset to the market. We wish Dom all the very best with whatever he chooses to pursue next, and we are delighted he will continue with us until the end of the year to support the business transition to our new CEO.”
