Requesting your own insurance history
If you have lost your certificate of insurance or want to know what information the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) holds about you, then you can complete a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR).
Requesting someone else’s insurance information
If you need to confirm the insurance details of a deceased relative then you can complete a DSAR deceased relative form.
We will provide you with the current insurance details as showing on the Motor Insurance Database (MID) and this will allow you to contact the insurers and inform them of the circumstances.
You will need to send us a copy of the Death Certificate for the policyholder.
Completing an access request form
If you are from the UK and want to know details of who you are insured with or have been insured with in the past then you can do this by completing a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR). You will be able to find out your insurance history for the last seven years. There is an administration charge of £10 for this service. MIB has an obligation to respond to requests within 40 calendar days.
