1. When does MIAFTR data Go Live in Navigate?

We're moving MIAFTR data into Navigate on Monday 24 November 2025. From that date, all existing MIAFTR users will access this data from the MIB's Navigate platform.

  2. Where can I find more information about Go Live weekend 21-24 November?

We've shared the schedule for our Go-Live weekend here. We hostied a webinar on 7 October to share more on this. You can watch it here.

  3. Will there be a notification message advising user the MIAFTR portal is offline?

There will be a notification message displayed when you try to access the MIAFTR Portal after 12pm on Friday 21 November and throughout the Go Live weekend.

  4. Can we use the MIAFTR portal during Go Live weekend? Why are you making it unavailable during business hours on Friday 21 November and Monday 24 November?

MIAFTR will be unavailable from 12 noon on Friday 21 November, and will be available as Navigate VS&TD from 12 noon on Monday 21 November. This should be communicated to all your users to make them aware they need to make any uploads or amendments before this time.

We have carefully planned out time for robust testing and checks which means we need more than the weekend period to make sure we have as smooth a Go Live as possible.

  5. Why can’t we have enquiry-only / read-only access to MIAFTR over the weekend?

We did investigate keeping MIAFTR available for enquiries only during our Go Live weekend. However, doing this would make the Go Live more complicated. It would also make it harder for us to revert to the old system should something go wrong.

So, to make sure everything goes smoothly, the entire system will be unavailable during the Go Live weekend.

  6. Can vehicle recovery staff who work on our behalf be given access to MIAFTR?

Yes. We’d class them as your delegated authority. They’re working on your behalf to handle vehicles in the recovery units. They’ll need to register for an account on Navigate. Email cueandmiaftrmailbox@mib.org.uk

  7. Will Navigate have improved contacts for insurance companies?

Yes. Within our migration activity we’re thoroughly reviewing our insurer contacts.

We're also encouraging the use of centralised mailboxes for resilience purposes.

  8. Why is MIAFTR useful for police forces?

MIAFTR was developed to help monitor vehicles written off for insurance purposes, trace and recover stolen vehicles and to detect fraud.

PNC markers show that a vehicle has been stolen, but not the details of any write-off categories (A,B,S,N) that have been assigned to a vehicle following an incident.

With PNC, stolen vehicle markers only remain for six years, regardless of whether a vehicle has been found. With MIAFTR, vehicle category markers remain forever. It's about a vehicle (not an individual) and therefore doesn't fall under GDPR.

  9. How will working practices between police and insurers be improved?

Within our migration activity ahead of Go Live we’re reviewing our insurance contacts and also reviewing working practices.

If you’re having difficulty contacting an insurance company, please email cueandmiaftrmailbox@mib.org.uk

  10. How can I get access to MIAFTR?

Please email your request to cueandmiaftrmailbox@mib.org.uk

  11. Will the process of recovering vehicles be improved in Navigate?

As part of our post-Go Live enhancements we’ll consider areas for further improvement.

  12. Do we need a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) in our police force for MIAFTR?

As part of our migration activities, we’re reviewing insurer/police force working practices.

  13. How much does it cost to subscribe to MIAFTR?

There is no charge for police forces using, or subscribing to, MIAFTR.

  14. Will the Law Enforcement Data service (LEDs) integration improve the MIAFTR data we can view ?

LEDs and PNC optimisation is being reviewed and further information will follow after Go Live.
