Be ready for Operation Drive Insured 2024
30 October 2024
There's less than a week to go until Operation Drive Insured (ODI) 2024, the MIB-led annual campaign focused on taking uninsured vehicles off the road.
We've pulled together the top points you need to support your roadside activity and social media content into one quick read.
Roadside activity
We are asking all 45 UK Police Forces to drive proactive operations, stopping vehicles to check they are being driven with the correct insurance policies.
We appreciate that not every force will have the capacity for large operations, so we're encouraging you to think on how this could be tailered to your resource and demand. This may be to use a multi-agency approach, the dedication of roads policing teams to proactive stops through the use of ANPR, or for local neighbourhood policing teams to target uninsured vehicles.
Some key points for ODI week:
- The MIB Police Helpline will have extended hours (0800 999 4165):

Spreading the word
We’re delighted to share the ODI partnership pack, containing all you need to be ready for roadside operations and social amplification.
Key points from the pack:
- Return form: We are asking that all seizures are logged at the roadside. This should take less than a minute to complete and will allow us to better track the results of ODI 2024 and shape activities in 2025. Results will also be shared with forces. A QR code linking you to the form can be found on page 9.
- Social media: We believe that there is strength in numbers, which is why we’re inviting you to help amplify the reach of the campaign to your local community.
- Please use #OpDriveInsured24 or #ODI24 on all posts.
- Pages 12-19 cover sample social posts along with a large number of assets available for your use.
- Pages 21-24 cover impacts, reasons, pitfalls and consequences of uninsured driving which may also be helpful.
- Regional press releases: If there is enough available data on uninsured claims within your force region, you will receive a regional press release on 11 November. This will highlight the top hotspots in your region – this can be shared with known interested press contacts or placed on your force news pages.
