MIB is the data controller for the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) and Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud Theft Register (MIAFTR) databases. These are important resources in the fight against insurance fraud. MIB governs the standards of data quality which members are expected to achieve and works to enforce data quality and control.
Providing MIB services
MIB provides important risk and compliance support to CUE & MIAFTR, helping to ensure that data controls are robust and compliant with all legal requirements.
Through its service delivery and project management services, MIB also helps to ensure the smooth operation of important CUE & MIAFTR services as well as day to day management of any incidents and service improvements. Alongside these, a team of account managers provides CUE & MIAFTR subscribers with support in the event of queries or issues.
Motor Insurers Anti-Fraud and Theft Register (MIAFTR)
MIAFTR is a database containing records of written off and stolen vehicles, as defined by the Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage. MIAFTR was designed and developed to help monitor vehicles written off for insurance purposes, to help trace and recover stolen vehicles and to help detect fraud.
Access to MIAFTR is limited to subscribers, of which there are approximately 300. These include insurers, self-insured compensators (eg fleet companies), police forces and delegated authorities working on behalf of an existing subscriber (eg an insurer).
Your privacy is important to MIB and we take our responsibility regarding the security of your personal information very seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information and to being transparent about the information we are collecting about you and what we do with it.
Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE)
CUE is a central database of motor, home and personal injury/industrial illness incidents reported to insurance companies which may or may not have given rise to a claim. Information held on CUE is a powerful weapon in the fight against fraud.
CUE was established in 1994 to help fight insurance fraud. By enabling insurers to access details of incidents, it makes it harder to successfully commit claims fraud or misrepresent claims history. Ultimately, this helps to keep down the cost of insurance for honest policyholders.
CUE has been expanded to accept data relating to travel insurance claims with the launch of its new platform, CUE Travel. CUE Travel is the first central database of the industry’s claims and notifications for travel insurance policies. It has been developed to allow insurers to validate a policyholder’s travel claims history for both claims management and underwriting purposes. Insurers can make the most of this new platform by requesting a CUE subscriber pack by contacting CUETravel@mib.org.uk
If you wish to find out what information is held about you on the CUE database, please complete a Subject Access Request form. Alternatively if you wish to contact us regarding a complaint, or any other query relating to these databases, please contact MIB on on 0345 1652803 (freephone) or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
