Welcome to the Motor Insurers' Bureau

The law on motor insurance has changed. If you own a vehicle and it is registered in your name, unless it has been declared as “off the road” with a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) with the DVLA, it must be insured at all times. It is also still illegal to drive a vehicle without appropriate insurance.

If you are not insured (or haven’t made a SORN for your vehicle), your policy record will not appear on the Motor Insurance Database (MID) and you can expect to receive a warning letter in the post, followed by a fixed penalty fine.

The MID holds the insurance records of over 34 million vehicles and is used by the police and DVLA to enforce the law.

Check your own vehicle is correctly recorded by going to askMID.com.  Stay legal and Stay Insured.
