The police are an essential enforcement agency, and have been provided with unique powers by law to seize vehicles that are being driven on UK roads with no insurance.

In order to carry out these powers to the best of their abilities, the police need to be provided with an accurate source of information on which to base decisions about those vehicles that are, and aren’t insured.  Accessing the MID allows the police to make better informed judgements on which vehicles to seize for being driven with no insurance.
