I bought my car insurance yesterday and today have had my vehicle seized because the police couldn’t find a record on the MID, who’s to blame?

It’s an unfortunate situation, but nobody is to blame. Your insurance provider is allowed, by law, a certain number of days (7) to load your data to the MID, and some just can’t get all the data to MID within one day.

The police have to have reasonable belief that the vehicle is being driven with no insurance, and the MID is generally a good indicator as to insurance status. However in this circumstance it is not likely to result in your vehicle being seized as the police would either make direct enquiries with the insurance company, or they would contact the MIB’s dedicated Police Helpline who would liaise with the insurance company to establish insurance status quickly.

If the worst happens and your vehicle is seized, you will have to discuss any charges incurred with both your insurance provider and the police force responsible for seizing the vehicle.
