Information to assist you in making a claim

What do I do if I have to make a claim?

If your accident was within the European Economic Area (EEA), or in another country of the Green Card System and caused by an EEA motorist, you may be able to pursue your claim against agents in the UK, using the procedures introduced by the Fourth Motor Insurance Directive (now incorporated into the Codified Directive 2009/103/EC).

For all accidents in other countries, it is advisable that you have legal advice so that you know what you can claim for and how long your claim may take. Do not delay getting advice as you may have a relatively short time in which to make your claim.

For accidents in other countries, you may wish to consider obtaining legal advice so that you know what you can claim for and how long your claim may take. It is suggested that you pursue this as soon as possible after the accident as some countries have very short time limits in which to pursue a claim. Please note: depending on the country, it may not be possible to recoup your legal costs.

To obtain insurance details of EEA vehicles following accidents abroad you should contact the UK Information Centre at MIB information@mib.org.uk.
