My Story

Customer Helpdesk Representative
I have worked at the Bureau for 7 years, originally joining the evening team as a clerical clerk.  Over the years I have progressed my career though various roles from Data Entry Clerk on the payments team and on the New Claims Team.  Whilst working in the evenings, I have worked on Recoveries, Green Card, Handling Office Payments and Post and the MID sections as well as on Special Claims Unit which involved checking various databases for fraudulent claims.

In 2006 the opportunity arose for me to join the IT team on a secondment basis for 9 months looking after the evening IT Support.  This is a role, which gave me new experiences and challenges whilst enabling me to develop new skills.

As my children become older, I found myself able to move for working evenings into a full time day position.  This was when I was given the opportunity to take up my current role on the MIB Police Helpline.  The helpline provides a valuable service to the police and is a useful tool that is being used to take uninsured drivers from our roads.

Most recently, as part of my personal development plan, I have been selected to take part in the MIB Management Academy programme.  This fantastic opportunity will enable me to gain knowledge in all aspects of leadership, giving me a new set of skills and prepare me for future opportunities.

Cross Border Admin Assistant

I have been with the Bureau for just over four years and began working in the evening as a clerical assistant. At the time this was an ideal job for me as I was still studying at college.

After 3 years of working in the evening, I also took on a daytime role within the MIB as a Claims handler on the Cross Border Admin Team.  I am still doing both shifts to this day.

My daytime role has a lot more responsibility and I have learnt new skills resulting in me becoming a deputy figure within the team. As there are so many opportunities at the MIB, there is always a chance to progress your career with a variety of different roles.

Accounts Assistant
I’ve been working for the MIB for the past two years. My main duty is processing the payroll however; I also assist the accounts department on some of their day-to-day functions. This makes my role varied and challenging.

The MIB are very focused on personal development which has enabled me to attended several course to allow me to be up to date with current legislation. This assists me immensely as I can give correct advice to the employees.

Trainee Claims Handler
I joined the MIB in September 2008, as one of a batch of nine trainees. This was my first job since graduating from University, with the transition from study to work eased by the excellent training programme at the MIB.

The initial classroom-based technical training was interesting and challenging, whilst being very informative. Since then, the training programme exposed us to various parts of the business, ranging from listening in to the Police Helpline, to shadowing a member of the Cross Border Claims Team.

Following on from that, a portfolio of claims was gradually built up for each trainee, starting with property damage and moving on to personal injury. This meant that the training, whilst based on knowledge initially gathered in a classroom, was essentially on-the-job learning. Consequently, my development into a claims handler has been strengthened tremendously.

Also, my integration into a claims team was advanced by the close support of training officers, and my referral ‘buddy’ has also provided excellent feedback on my work so far; my development has been enhanced as a result.

On reflection six months on, I have learnt much and would encourage any recent graduates to seriously consider joining MIB. The diverse and fascinating challenges on a daily basis are matched by supportive colleagues and an excellent team atmosphere, not to mention an outstanding sports and social club.
